Lil' Red Records
Welcome to Lil' Red's Musical Works. I started this independent company in 2018 with the release of our first fully produced CD, Soul Burnin'. As the music industry changes and our presence in it grows, this little shop will be here to share the little nuggets I produce. For now it's all my own work, but I'm interested in producing other's projects in the future! I'm more of an in the moment kinda lady so the future's wide open. Hold on to your britches, you never know where divine wind will blow me next!

An auto-production using the name Lil’ Red Records, this first major release is produced by and featuring Chicago guitar legend Dave Specter. Their new CD is composed of 12 original songs with two instrumentals recorded, mixed and mastered by Grammy winner Blaise Barton at JoyRide Studio in Chicago. A true American/French collaboration Jennifer “Lil’ Red" Milligan & Pascal “Rooster” Fouquet are joined by the dynamite French rhythm section Abdell B. Bop on upright bass and Denis Agenet on drums with American award winning boogie & blues pianist Ricky Nye and Shaun Booker, Jeff Morrow and Caroline Rau on vocals. Touching and refreshing with bite and humor, their original songs come from their love for those old jazzy blues and post-war rhythm & blues. “It’s a cry for love!” says Lil’ Red “The current climate of political turmoil, violence, racism and bigotry makes my soul burn. May the Blues heal and bring us together through the awareness of beauty in difference.”

“‘Out Of The Coop!’ is an auto-production, inspired by two acoustic CDs with Lurrie Bell, ‘The Devil Ain’t Got No Music’ and ‘Second Nature’ with Carey Bell. Although extraordinary, it isn’t just the music that moves me in these CDs. I’m intoxicated by the sound of the recording, mix and mastering. This natural sound and sense of intimacy and space are where my inspiration began. I took advantage of the flexibility of auto-production and took risks to incorporate as much of our diversity as possible. We took our time to get it right with what we had to work with, creativity and experienced musicians. I call it organic recording. Most tracks were recorded in our apartments in Normandy and Nantes, France with trains passing, amps tucked in closets, and the pantry padded with pillows. ‘Fever’ was recorded sitting on the edge of the bathtub and you may hear a train pass in ‘Slow Down’. My favorite moments of music are the ones that happen behind the scene, bare bones, simple and rich like Keb Mo with just his guitar or Diunna Greenleaf’s grandmother recorded singing in her kitchen. I was interested in this type of organic sound for the duo & trio’s electric roots blues to the edge of old jazz style. The full band West Coast, Texas & Chicago Blues were recorded more traditionally in the drummer Denis’ studio. He brilliantly engineered the recording in the spirit of early Muddy Waters. “Trouble No More” was captured live in one take.” There were many doubts as to whether I could match the sounds of many different spaces and microphones, put opposing genres of blues and jazz side by side or create a CD with songs in duo, trio and a very fat sounding band, but that’s what we are, so I had faith. The mix took a lot of work, but I knew the mastering would be key. By chance, Blaise Barton the Grammy winner who did the engineering, mixing and mastering for ‘The Devil Ain’t Got No Music,’ one of the CDs that inspired this process, was available to bless our CD with his talents, and that he did. This was my first time taking the lead as producer, co-engineer, mixer, and designer and I had a blast! You have to take some risks to find rich surprises. Thanks for listening!” Lil’ Red

Pretty Gritty City
Jenny Lee & The Hoodoomen
Jennifer “Lil Red” Milligan and Pascal Fouquet recorded a 7 track CD as Jenny Lee and The Hoodoomen called “Pretty Gritty City”. Included are 3 original tracks by Jennifer Milligan and Pascal Fouquet.
The award winning Hoodoomen had taken a pause for several years when Lil’ Red & Pascal began their journey. This CD is the culmination of their first musical collaboration. The project didn’t take off, but this CD is a nice souvenir with 3 original songs written by Lil’ Red & Pascal. The extraordinary Drew Davies is a guest on sax and vocals as well as Thomas Troussier on harmonica and Pascal’s daughter Pauline “Poow” Fouquet on rhythm guitar. The rhythm section was described as a war machine with Francis Marie on drums and Eric Lebeau on upright-bass. The Hoodoomen have reunited with Philippe Briere returning as the front man, Pascal Fouquet on guitar, Francis Marie on drums and Luc Melot, from le Bluetones on bass.
